I hold a BA in Journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill (http://www.jomc.unc.edu/)
and a Master's in English and Creative Writing from North
Carolina State University (http://english.chass.ncsu.edu/creativewriting/).
I've enjoyed freelancing for more than ten years now. I write for
Our State, the Raleigh News & Observer
(real estate), The Cary News (columnist), The
Southwest Wake News (columnist), Cary Living, Pinehurst Magazine, Midtown Magazine
(columnist), North Carolina State University, Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q and QSR Magazine (a national trade magazine for restaurant executives and operators). I work with most of my clients for years, typically until they bring the work in-house. I've had a few offers to join the office ranks, but I can't bring myself to do it.
I'm also a discussion leader for
MomsLikeMe.com, a national
website launched by the Gannett Company, Inc., which publishes
USA Today.
Awards/Recognition: First-place winner in N.C. Press Club
competitions (2006-2008), Honorable Mention in Writer's
Digest 78th national writing competition (2009), finalist
for Chicken Soup for the Soul's "Power Moms" book
(2008).
